We tried to get some hiking in on this trip. And not just short five minute hikes from our car to a waterfall to snap some pictures. But there aren't that many 4-6 hour hikes on Maui. Which is why we did two hikes in Haleakala. But Waihe'e Valley (or Swinging Bridges) Trail was a nice one through tropical foilage. And you get to play on two swinging bridges. The hike is only a few hours and you've got to pay now, but Raven says that's a good thing, since car break-ins are so frequent in this area.
We then went around West Maui on a very narrow one-lane road with two-way traffic. My sister said this road is "not that bad and is drivable in a rental car." She obviously wasn't driving. Yes, it's driveable, but the driver sees nothing but the road and other cars driving this. It blew. Skip it! Plan your trip from the Lahaina side.
When it finally turned back into a two lane, we stopped at every turn-out, jumped out, snapped a photo, and jumped back in. Tourists!
Sandwich?Peanut butter and honey on whole wheat toast. The best hiking/biking food there is!
